Maruti e Vitara

Maruti Suzuki has officially entered India’s fast-growing electric vehicle market with the launch of the e Vitara at an introductory price of Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom), excluding the battery. The electric SUV marks the brand’s first fully electric offering in the country and introduces a unique Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, where customers pay separately for battery usage.

Under this rental model, buyers will pay Rs 3.99 per kilometre driven for battery usage. Bookings for the e Vitara are now open for Rs 21,000, while the complete variant-wise pricing (excluding battery subscription) is yet to be announced.

Battery Options and Driving Range

The Maruti e Vitara is offered with two battery pack options, both paired with a front-mounted electric motor and a standard 2WD setup.

Exterior Design Inspired by eVX Concept

The design of the e Vitara draws inspiration from the brand’s earlier electric SUV concept showcased at Auto Expo 2023. The SUV features a muscular stance with bold cladding and a modern front fascia.

Key exterior highlights include:

  • All-LED headlamps
  • Active grille shutters for battery cooling
  • Aero-optimised 18-inch alloy wheels
  • LED tail-lamps connected by a transparent light bar
  • Roof spoiler and chunky rear bumper cladding

The overall design reflects a strong SUV character while incorporating aerodynamic elements suited for an electric vehicle.

Premium and Tech-Focused Interior

Inside, the e Vitara features a dual-tone brown and black cabin with soft-touch inserts. The dashboard layout is distinctive, with an asymmetrical design created by the offset placement of the digital driver display and infotainment screen.

Interior highlights include:

  • 10.25-inch digital driver display
  • 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support
  • Infinity sound system
  • Wireless charging pad
  • Fixed glass sunroof
  • Ambient lighting
  • Ventilated front seats
  • 10-way powered driver seat
  • Sliding and reclining rear seats
  • Connected car technology
  • Shift-by-wire gear selector

The higher-set centre console and flat-bottom steering wheel further enhance the modern EV appeal.

Advanced Safety and ADAS Features

Safety is a major focus in the e Vitara, with features such as:

  • 7 airbags
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • 360-degree camera
  • Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
  • Level 2 ADAS
  • Electronic parking brake

The inclusion of Level 2 ADAS places the e Vitara among the more technology-forward offerings in its segment.

Warranty and Ownership Details

Maruti is offering a 5-year warranty on the battery pack and a 3-year standard warranty on the vehicle. Buyers can also opt for a 5-year extended warranty for the vehicle at an additional cost.

The Battery-as-a-Service model is designed to reduce the upfront purchase price while offering flexibility in ownership. However, buyers should evaluate their expected driving usage to calculate long-term battery rental costs.

Rivals in the Electric SUV Segment

The e Vitara enters a competitive electric SUV space in India. It will compete with models such as:

  • Hyundai Creta Electric
  • VinFast VF6
  • MG ZS EV
  • Mahindra BE 6
  • Tata Curvv EV

With a claimed range of up to 543km and a flexible battery rental model, the Maruti e Vitara aims to attract buyers looking for a practical, feature-rich electric SUV backed by a widespread service network.

As India’s largest carmaker steps into the EV space, the e Vitara represents a significant milestone for the brand and could play a key role in expanding electric mobility adoption across the country.
